Human Responsibility for the Earth with Scriptural Ties
We often wonder what Scripture says about our relationship with Mother Earth. When the Scriptures were written, there as little understanding of the earth as we know it today through science. Thus, we need to interpret these revelations in light of current events.
Charles F. “Chick” Keller entered Catholic seminary after High School. After four years of philosophy and theology, he became aware that traditional theology may require updating through modern science. As a result, he studied Physics and Mathematics at Penn State and received a PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics from Indiana University in 1969. Chick joined Los Alamos National Laboratory to work on a variety of computer-based studies, including climate change. He eventually became the director of the Institute for Geophysics and Planetary Physics at Los Alamos. Chick is a founder of the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC). In 2017, Chick was named a “Living Treasure” of Los Alamos. Chick is also a founding member of the Los Alamos Faith and Science Forum and has read extensively concerning science with its impact upon theological concepts. He provided numerous presentations over the years on issues where faith and science intersect. Chick is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
